Unable to Open a Word Document From FTP Or HTTP Location

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) are the application protocols, which provide simple and secure way to exchange files over a network like the Internet. An error message might occur related to file access, file integrity, network problem and more when you try to open a Word document from an FTP or HTTP location. To access such file(s) the user needs to restore the data from an updated backup. If the user does not have the file in the backup, he needs to use efficient File Recovery Software to recover the Word file.

When a user opens a Word document - created in earlier versions than Word 2003 like Word 2002 (XP) or Word 2000 - from an FTP or HTTP server, he encounters the below error message:

"Word was unable to read this document. It may be corrupt. Try one or more of the following:

*Open and Repair the file.

*Open the file with the Text Recovery Converter.

The Word document has been completely damaged or corrupted.

The user is trying to open the word document by using one of the following methods:

· The user clicks on a hyperlink that is linked to the Word document in an HTML document in a Web browser.

· The user clicks Open on the File menu in Word 2003.

Resolution:
